Enjoy your life and change your point of view
“Two men look through the same bars; one sees the clay, the other sees the stars.”Frederick Langbridge, a collection of quiet thoughts
If you place second in a writing competition, will you jump for joy and seek better results next time, or will you get frustrated and find an excuse not to enter again?
In life, you are always full of options. You can choose to have a pessimistic outlook and live a self-destructive life or you can choose to follow the path of an optimist and live a stimulating and fulfilling life.
So why feed an optimistic point of view? And why now?
Optimism was associated with a positive mood and good spirits; academic, sports, military, professional, and political success; popularity; good health; and even a long life and the absence of trauma.
However, the rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. It affects middle-aged adults in the same way as young people. The average age of onset has increased from 30 to 15 years. This is no longer a disorder of a middle-aged parent at home but also a disorder of adolescence.
Here’s how optimists work and the research that explains why it pays to be optimistic:
Optimists are waiting for the best
A distinctive feature of pessimists is that they believe bad events, which will last a long time and undermine everything they do, are their fault.
The fact is that optimists face the same cruel blows of this world. What is different is the way they explain their unhappiness—the opposite is true. They believe that defeat is only a temporary setback, the reasons for which are limited to this case alone.
Optimists focus on the “problem” to be solved and planned. They use a “positive reinterpretation”."They are more likely to reinterpret a negative experience in a way that helps them learn and grow. These people are not upset by the bad situation. They see it as a challenge and try harder.
They will not say," Things will never get better,” “If I fail once, it will happen again,” and “If I experience misfortune in one part of my life, it will happen all my life.”
Positive forecasts by optimists also predict better reactions during transitions to new environments, sudden tragedies, and an unlikely turn of events. If they fall, they will wake up. They see opportunities instead of obstacles.
People respond positively to optimists
Optimists are proactive and less dependent on others for their happiness. They find no need to control or manipulate people. They usually attract people to them. Their optimistic worldview can be contagious and affect those with whom they share it.
Optimism seems to be a socially desirable trait in all societies. Those who share your optimism are accepted, while those who spread gloom, panic, and hysteria are treated unfavorably.
In life, such people often win elections; the most sympathetic vote occurs and they request advice.
When things get tough, optimists get tougher
Optimists maintain higher levels of subjective well-being in times of stress than less optimistic people. In addition, pessimists are more likely to react to stressful events by denying their existence or avoiding dealing with problems. Pessimists are more likely to stop trying when difficulties arise.
They persevere. They do not quit easily; they are also known for their patience in getting closer to this goal or an unattainable dream.
Optimists are healthier and live longer
Medical research has justified the idea that simple pleasures and a positive attitude can lead to a measurable increase in the body’s ability to fight the disease.
The health of optimists is exceptionally good. They are aging well, more free than most people from the usual physical ailments of middle age. And they remained alive for those who are prone to negative thoughts.
So why not be optimistic today? And think positively about a more fulfilling life.
Why not hope for success in all your endeavors? Why not be flexible? Like everyone else, sometimes you have to reach lows, but don’t just stay there. Get out of the mud and improve your chances of getting back on track. And why not inspire others to take off dark-colored glasses and see life on the bright side?
